Bajaj awarded Stadium Illumination work for 2011 Cricket World Cup

Bajaj Electricals Limited has received the prestigious order for flood lighting of Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

The entire Stadium is being renovated and readied for the 2011 World Cup matches including the World Cup Final. This is truly a proud achievement for the Engineering & Projects Business Unit (E&P BU) of Bajaj Electricals Ltd (BEL) which handles such turnkey projects.

The Stadium, which is being renovated by Larsen & Toubro, has a high canopy over the spectator’s stand which requires specially designed high masts of height 72 meters at the top of the head frame. The spectator gallery is going to be covered by a modern day roof structure having a 30m x 30m width & height projecting towards the ground.

The Highmast structure will be manufactured at BEL’s World class manufacturing and galvanizing unit at Ranjangaon and will be designed as per International Standards ILE TR7 / British Standards 5649. Another unique feature is the PLC based control system with SCADA software and touch screen arrangement for controlling and monitoring the entire lighting system from one centralized control room.

The Project will be completed in two phases. Under Phase 1, 4 Nos. Highmast will be installed before the civil structure of the stadium is erected because of lack of free space and the requirement of huge cranes to erect such heavy and big highmasts. Under phase 2, the flood lights will be installed subsequently after the civil structure is completed.

Bajaj has recently completed the impressive Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at Hyderabad and Usha Raje Cricket Stadium at Indore. This was applauded by the International Players, spectators and the TV transmission crews for the amazing lighting levels and glare control achieved at these installations while playing cricket of international quality.

According to Mr. Lalit Mehta, Executive President, E & P BU, the entire lighting will be carried out with 472 nos. 2KW Metal Halide Flood Lights which will achieve Lux levels as per ICC guidelines and will meet the requirements of HD TV transmission in line with the International Standards. Bajaj Electricals has taken special care in designing this technology marvel to avoid light pollution, unnecessary wastage of energy and also minimizing the spill over of light to neighbouring areas. Specially designed optics, high precision beam control mechanism will help restrict the light up to certain limit from the Stadium boundary as per the International Standards Guidelines.
