Fibre Optics Lighting at Ajanta Caves Client : CPWD, Nashik Challenge : The priceless historical paintings in the caves at Ajanta were getting damaged due to light heat, humidity, water seepage etc. Client wanted caves to be lit appropriately by avoiding heat, light and their uneven dispersion effect on the paintings. The client wanted lighting system in caves without harming the paintings, existing structures and providing optimum viewing/ circulation facilities for the tourists. Fibre optics lighting of such large magnitude in caves was being done first time in India. Design the system in such away that pictures on the wall as well as of ceiling can be seen clearly Solution : Designed the lighting system to get illumination level as per requirement and also all pictures on wall and ceilings were taken into account Installation was carried out considering optimum viewing without any hindrance to tourists, easy maintenance of the system.
