The trust was established on 12th August 1988. In memory of the Venerable Nichidatsu Fujii, the founding preceptor of 'Nippozan Myohoji'. He met Gandhiji and became his life-long admirer. Gandhiji, too, impressed by his infinite clarity of purpose and dedication to peace, named him Fujii Guruji.

The main objectives of the trust are:

• To propagate the message of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi of world peace, love, non-violence and equality of all religions.
• To organise and conduct similar other activities for the benefit of humanity at large based on the Sarvodaya philosophy
• To organise exhibitions, publish literature, establish libraries and build monuments for the promotion of the objectives of the trust.

To further the message of peace and non- violence preached by Rev. Fujii Guruji, the trust built the Vishwa Shanti Stupa at an approximate cost of Rs. 70 lakhs on the land donated by Kamalnayan Bajaj Charitable Trust at Bajaj Dham, Wardha. The site was chosen by Fujii Guruji himself, as he wanted the Stupa to be constructed in memory of Gandhiji and Jamnalalji. The Stupa was inaugurated on 15th January, 1993 by Hon. Shankar Dayal Sharma, President of India, when nearly 225 Japanese were also present.

The trust has received very liberal and substantial donation from the followers of Rev. Fujii Guruji in Japan through the efforts of Japan Bharat Sarvodaya Mitrata Sangh led by Rev. Imaiji but for whose dedication and perseverance this project could not have taken concrete shape.

The Vishwa Shanti Stupa complex also includes a small Buddha Temple in order to propagate the message of Lord Buddha
