Navaratri is over, and we are back to our regular chores, and now it’s time to face the challenge -- the state of your kitchen. While there is still a festive vibe in the air, as Diwali is around the corner, keeping your kitchen clean and hygienic becomes our topmost priority. However, it sounds more daunting than it actually is! From cleaning to organising, let’s take a look at some of the hacks which will make your kitchen Diwali-ready!

Removing Turmeric Stains from Utensils/Kitchen Counters:

As much as cooking is fun, the aftermath can be messy. Since this yellow ingredient is used in almost every Indian cuisine, unsightly yellow patches on kitchen counters and utensils can be quite harrowing! Basic kitchen ingredients such as Baking Soda, Lemon and Vinegar have come a long way with a successful track record during any cleaning crisis.

Tip 1: Dilute baking soda in water till it becomes a thick paste. Apply the paste on the patched area and leave it for a few minutes. Wash the area under running water and later wipe it with a clean cloth.

Tip 2: Dilute some vinegar or lemon in water and apply the paste on the patched area and leave it for a couple of minutes. Wipe it with a clean cloth. If the strain refuses to leave your sight, it is advisable to use a steel wool scrubber on the strained area after a couple of minutes.

Cleaning Burnt Stains from Utensils:

While cooking delicacies during the festive season is great but burnt utensils never make a great sight in the kitchen. Even if you are using the best dishwashing soap, it can get difficult to get rid of the food stains from burnt utensils.

Tip 3:  First soak the utensil in warm lemon or vinegar water for almost an hour. Then take some baking soda and scrub it in a circular motion on the burnt pan for a few minutes. Wash the utensil under running water and then wipe it with a clean cloth.

Aerated drinks and Wine can be used as cleaning agents too.

Tip 4: Pour some wine on the burnt pan and allow it to rest for a few minutes. Black stains will gradually disappear.

Tip 5: Our favourite cola can be left on the pan and simmered on a low flame to make the eeky looking black stains disappear.

Cleaning Gas Stove:

When we are discussing about cleaning hacks, no article would be complete without tips on deep cleaning gas burners. Non maintenance not only ages the appliance but could also create fire hazards.

Wash all the burners with lukewarm water and detergent to remove the initial coat.

Tip 6: Apply a thick paste of baking soda and water on all the burners and allow it to stay for 20-25 minutes. Scrub the burners with a brush to get rid of the food residue and rinse thoroughly.

Tip 7: For daily maintenance, spray burners regularly with vinegar and allow it to stay for 20 minutes. Wipe all the residue gently with a clean cloth. This process cuts through grease before it gets a chance to become a rigid mark.

Cleaning Microwave:

Amidst all the baking and cooking, we often forget to clean our kitchen time-saver. Yes! We are talking about Microwave Ovens. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to clean this appliance.

Tip 8: Slice a lemon into two halves. Squeeze the lemon into half a bowl of water and drop the lemon shells into the bowl as well. Place the bowl in the microwave and keep it on high power for 3-4 minutes until the liquid comes to a boil. Allow it to stand for 5-6 minutes, so that the steam trapped inside helps fade food stains. Open the door and carefully remove the bowl. Now, take a dry clean cloth and wipe inside the microwave. If there are any stubborn stains, dip another cloth in the lemon water and scrub until the spot goes away.

Cleaning and Sanitising Refrigerator:

The refrigerator is one of the most used and visible appliances in the kitchen. Before cleaning the appliance, it is suggested to remove all foods and beverages from the refrigerator which will create space and allow you to clean every nook and corner.

Tip 9: Remove all the drawers or and shelves and soak in warm water mixed with dishwashing soap for almost an hour to get rid of the stains. Wipe all interior surface areas with a mixture of dishwashing soap and warm water. For stubborn stains, apply a mixture of baking soda and water on the patched area before wiping with a damp sponge or cloth. While you are dealing with a refrigerator, it is advisable to avoid disinfectants as it could make people sick because of the strong chemicals.

Organising the Kitchen:

The kitchen can be a hard place to organise! Try to group all similar items together and closest to the area you will be using them. Keep dishes, glasses, and utensils close to the dishwasher for a quick and easy put away.
