It was established at the instance ot Acharya Vinoba Bhave for propagating the message of the Gita and its Marathi version, Gitai, which was rendered by Vinobaji during his imprisonment in Dhulia jail.
Since then, the Pratishthan has been conducting a scheme of examinations on different chapters of the Gita and Gitai, for Primary and High School students. This scheme was extended to Wardha in 1980.
School children are encouraged to participate in these competitions held in February and September every year. With certificates and prizes being awarded.
From 1978 to 2000 over 1.73 million students participated in this exercise. In 1999- 2000 alone, about 7000 students took part.
Since 1989, teachers are also being trained through training camps with prizes being awarded to those excelling in it. |
